Dental
Dental Services are offered at the Cornelius Center. In McMinnville, dental services are provided one day a week at the Head Start program through a mobile dental unit.
Services:
· X-rays
· Dental Prophylaxis - cleanings, fluoride applications, sealants, minor orthodontic movements
· Restorative care - fillings, stainless steel crowns, root canals, resin or alloy restorations, bridges
· Urgent Care – extractions, sedative or regular fillings, anterior root canals
Goals
· Prevent the incidence of dental caries in primary and permanent teeth Starting with prenatal counseling, preventative measures include Baby Day education classes, varnish services in the primary care clinics, referrals from primary care well child check appointments, outreach and education to schools and migrant farm worker sites and a sealant program.
· Prevent untreated dental decay in children, adolescents and adults Through referrals from the primary care clinics, local Head Start offices and other community sources, the dental division starts the restorative steps necessary to retain healthy teeth.
· Prevent periodontal disease By educating patients in proper daily health care and the avoidance of tobacco use, the aim is to prevent the incidence of precursor conditions such as gingivitis.
Mobile Dental Unit
VGMHC currently has a fully functioning dental van. The dental van has two operatories, an x-ray machine and developer, sterilization equipment and supplies. In the past year, 289 patients in 409 visits were served through the dental van. This has been primarily through mobile dental services at the Head Start location in Yamhill County one day per week. Starting in April 2005, Virginia Garcia will start dental service in Beaverton one day per week through the mobile dental van.
Vision
Pacific University College of Optometry operates a vision clinic in VGMHC’s Dental/Vision Facility in Cornelius. Functioning as a learning laboratory for students, it offers vision screening and eye care, and glasses at reduced prices to patients.
