A Community Partner's Story:
Woodstock Chiropractic
When Dr. John Platt first heard about Virginia Garcia, he was intrigued. “I did my homework and read the story about the little girl who lost her life,” said Dr. Platt. “I was very touched. Her untimely death has given so many others the opportunity to get health care.”
Dr. Platt and his partner, Dr. Kim Privitera, operate the Woodstock Chiropractic Clinics in Portland, Gresham and Hillsboro. With 11 doctors on staff, the clinics offer a full range of chiropractic care. “The more we learned about the Virginia Garcia health care model, the more we recognized the similarities in our philosophies in providing care”, said Dr. Platt. “We’re both committed to removing the barriers people face in accessing health care.” Woodstock Chiropractic Clinic has a bilingual Spanish-English staff and has been serving the Hispanic community since 1995.
It’s no wonder Woodstock Chiropractic Clinic sees a natural partner in Virginia Garcia and was proud to be the presenting sponsor for the Cornelius Wellness Center groundbreaking celebration in August. “We fill a unique niche,” said Dr. Platt. “We often see people that previously haven’t sought care or that no one else will see due to their language or literacy challenges. Our patients find us mostly by word of mouth and once when I asked a patient how he heard about us he replied, ‘everyone comes here’.”
Recently, Dr. Platt had a patient who was very overweight and wore thick corrective glasses. When Dr. Platt took his blood pressure and found it quite elevated, he convinced the man to see an internist who diagnosed him with diabetes. “The next time I saw him, he had lost a lot of weight and no longer wore glasses!”
Virginia Garcia is fortunate to have a partner that is such a good fit. “We were thrilled to have Woodstock Chiropractic Clinic as our presenting sponsor for the groundbreaking celebration. Especially knowing our patient populations have so much in common” said Christine Rontal, Virginia Garcia Memorial Foundation Executive Director.
“We were honored to be on the stage with other community partners,” said Dr. Platt. “Like Virginia Garcia, it’s part of our philosophy to give back to the community.”
