Mobile Medical Unit

Mobile Medical Unit

Virginia Garcia’s Mobile Clinic plays a critical role in the outreach and delivery of services to the migrant and seasonal farm worker population, as well as to other underserved populations in service areas such as Head Start children and vineyard workers. The Mobile Clinic is used for both the delivery of medical and dental services. During the harvest season (April through August), the mobile clinic provides services directly in over 25 different migrant camps in both Washington and Yamhill Counties. Last year staff provided 1,094 medical and dental encounters to 824 individuals. The medical staff provides care in the camps, evenings from 3-9 p.m., twice a week, using the Mobile Medical Clinic.

Outreach

While the Mobile Clinic is the primary migrant outreach service, weekly outreach effort is provided by a registered nurse and an outreach worker who visit the migrant camps throughout the year to provide care, information and referral services. A Pediatric nurse practitioner is stationed at Migrant Head Start for providing well child care, immunizations and care of sick children during the migrant season.

VGMHC also maintains an advice line for patients to call for medical advice when the clinics are closed, and an advice nurse during clinic hours.
