Outreach

Outreach Services

Outreach services are an integral part of the services offered at the Center. Outreach workers provide a variety of services to facilitate patient care including:

Health education

Health Education is offered on sexually transmitted disease (STDs) HIV, AIDS, pesticide exposure, nutrition and dehydration, immunizations, TB and prevention of work related injuries.

Migrant outreach program

The Migrant outreach program is partially funded by St. Vincent Hospital and uses a great number of volunteers for it to be successful. Through this program the Center provides screening, medical treatment and health education to migrant and seasonal farm workers living and working in the area migrant labor camps. During the year a nurse and a health educator go out once a week to survey the camps and screen people for any illness. From late April through August the Center sends a team of doctors, nurses, health educators and outreach workers twice a week, to the camps to provide on-site treatment and health education. Volunteers are always needed during the summer to work in our migrant outreach program.

Prenatal Outreach

In conjunction with the migrant outreach the Center intensively provides outreach to find pregnant women in the migrant camps. Screening for pregnancy and prenatal education is offered on-site. Women are referred to VGMHC/Healthy Start for their prenatal visits. Every effort is made to so that a provider sees the women and their copies of their records are given every time they are seen. This program is funded through the Washington County Commission on Children and Families.

Other services include:
