MEDICAL PROVIDERS
The front line staff of Virginia Garcia Memorial Health Center is led by our medical providers who provide primary care to our patients. Virginia Garcia employs over 25 doctors, nurse practitioners and physicians assistants at our six locations.
REGISTERED NURSES
Registered Nurses provide holistic patient care service as a member of the primary care team. Registered Nurses also perform routine tasks necessary for efficient patient care and assist providers as needed. Duties include but are not limited to: assessment of patient needs, identification of patients with significant health risks, patient education, triage patients, dispensing medication under M.D. supervision, infection control within the clinic, laboratory procedures when necessary, etc.
MEDICAL ASSISTANTS
Medical assistants provide direct assistance to the physician as well as perform duties requested by the executive director, medical director, and nursing supervisor. Duties include but are not limited to: take and record height, weight, and vital signs, determine immunization status, determine type of appointment needed, prepare labels for prepackaged medications, administer oral, inhaled, or intramuscular medications under physician order, answer telephones and dispense information under physician protocol, train as back-up for nursing staff in case of absence, stock exam rooms, clean and sterilize instruments, order supplies, translate, and patient triage as requested.
MEDICAL ASSISTANTS - EXPANDED ROLE
The expanded Medical Assistant position requires independent decision making and organizational skills that are necessary to initiate and follow through on long range projects. They perform all the duties of the regular medical assistant as well as running projects such as the: Breast and Cervical Cancer Screening Program, Indigent Medicine Program, and the DM Education Program.
CLINIC COORDINATOR
Clinic coordinators duties include but are not limited to: coordination of clinical services with providers, nursing staff, laboratory, front office and outreach, supervises all nursing staff, RN's, LVN's, and MA's, functions as the OSHA czar and chairs the multi-disciplinary safety committee, is a standing member of the QA/QI committee, and functions as a member of the management team. Specifically, duties include but are not limited to: establishing provider, RN's, and MA's monthly schedule, develops and implement policies and procedures, responsible for ordering medical supplies, pharmaceuticals, and equipment, responsible for immunizations, responsible for maintenance and calibration of medical equipment, recruits for new or vacant nursing positions, responsible for all OSHA activities, works with Medical Director, etc.
RECEPTIONISTS
Receptionists duties include but are not limited to: registering all patients, set up computer data, prepare patients charts, answer telephones, take provider messages, make appointments, collect patient payments, identify patient sliding fee responsibilities, set up patient payment schedules, deposit funds collected, manage the physical set up of the clinic each day, maintain all patient records, handle copy requests, file reports, enter patient encounter information at the end of each day/week, etc..
MEDICAID ELIGIBILITY SPECIALIST
Medicaid eligibility specialists duties include but are not limited to: providing OHP application and enrollement services for families with pregnant females or families with children, perform marketing and outreach services to the general public, act as liaison on OHP issues between AFS, other health care agencies and OHP Medicaid program, perform all record keeping activities associated with application and enrollment, meet all state compliance guidelines associated with outstationed OHP service providers, etc.
